Aviation refers to the business management, logistics, operation, international regulations and technology of transportation of cargo. In this case, aviation involves the use of airplanes, airports and flight support.

If you choose to study Aviation, you need to think of yourself as part of a chain and be able to work well with other people. In order to do so, clear communication is not only useful, it is essential. You also need to be quick-thinking and be decisive in order to have a smooth flow of processes between suppliers and customers. Often times, you will act as a mediator so you need to be able to work under a lot of pressure.

Training in Aviation management will provide you with a broad and diverse range of ground-based or shore-based jobs in ports and cargo segments of the transportation industry, as well as the airline or shipping industry.

Various Fields Available

Although mainly revolving around management and business, this is an industry that is growing in size and significance and may include subjects such as international law, finance and technology. In order to work on vessels, you will need the appropriate licensing that may vary from one country to another.

Fields

  • Aviation Engineering studies design, construction and maintenance of vessels used in air or around water.
  • Transportation Operation and logistics studies all aspects of international business and management along the entire value chain from consumers’, producers’ and investors’ perspectives.
  • Environmental Management studies the impact of the transportation industry, safety and pollution prevention. This module is often offered as a minor.

Education Pathways

There are several pathways towards an Aviation Degree after your Secondary Education. You can choose to pursue a Pre-University course, a Foundation in Business or Science in your chosen university or a Diploma. Upon completion of any of those qualification, you will then be eligible to pursue a Degree in Aviation. Depending on your chosen institution, your Degree program may include practical training or internship.

*As a rule of thumb: ‘A’ Level minimum 2 Es; STPM minimum 2 Cs; Australian Pre-University minimum of ATAR 50.0; CPU minimum average of 65% in 6 subjects; Diploma minimum CGPA of 2.0; Foundation in Business or Arts minimum CGPA of 2.0. All qualifications should include Mathematics.
